Bacteriostatic Water (BAC Water) for injection is sterile water for injection USP containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, allowing the same vial to be accessed multiple times over the reconstitution period — making it the appropriate diluent for research peptide reconstitution protocols as opposed to single-use sterile water for injection.
When reconstituting lyophilized research peptides, the choice of diluent significantly affects peptide stability. Bacteriostatic water's preservative action inhibits microbial contamination between uses, maintaining reconstituted peptide integrity across multiple preparation sessions. For most lyophilized research peptides, a ratio of 2ml BAC water per vial is a standard reconstitution reference point, though the optimal ratio depends on the specific compound concentration and research protocol.
